Job summary

UKHO provides direct support to Defence’s contingent operations and capability by providing maritime data, products and services as part of our Defence public task under the direction received from UK Strategic Command.

The purpose of the role is to develop and drive the Defence Operations and Partner Engagement Team to deliver quality output to time, cost and specification. The Team Manager is responsible for leading the team that provides Operational, Collaboration and Military Data service ownership and coordination. The post holder will work closely with our Defence Customers and Collaboration Partners, plus other UKHO Team Managers to ensure timely provision of maritime GEOINT expertise in support of maritime operational needs under the direction of the Defence Operations and Partner Engagement Manager who is a serving Royal Navy Officer.

This is a newly created role and there will be some creative opportunity to evolve it. There will be training available and colleague support on military data and operational support processes for the first months in the role. It is likely that the role will develop to support other Defence maritime geospatial requirements.

 

Hybrid working 

The Defence Operations Team are in office for a minimum of 4 days per week.  Hybrid working is supported and coordinated through the management chain.

Training: Following an initial period of 4 weeks training in office, there will be a period of continuation training of between 6 – 12 months, validated through a process of continuous assessment of the post-holder’s experience, knowledge, skills, and attitude.

Please note our Policy on informal hybrid working (arrangements available as agreed with the line manager) applies within the UK, and does not extend to working overseas.

Job description

As UKHO’s Defence Operations and Partner Engagement Team Manager you can expect to:

  • Deliver effective support to the Defence Operations and Partner Engagement Manager in maintaining and reporting against delivery for their areas of the Multi-Year Service Definition Annex (MYSDA).
  • Lead on future opportunities and developments, devolving to the team as appropriate as opportunities mature, focusing on transition from product to service and data centric solutions.
  • Build and maintain supporting operational and technical knowledge within the team to ensure understanding and delivery of the current and future defence requirements.
  • Develop team coherence, understand potential and influence scope of user requirement to ensure best value is delivered effectively and efficiently.
  • Provides support to Defence Development Team to aid workforce management tasks and align outputs with Defence Product and Service Team Manager’s outputs.
  • Ensure the team effectively engages with customer groups, national geo-spatial agencies, foreign defence partners and allies to ensure maximum burden sharing and interoperability opportunities are attained.

Act as Line Manager for all UKHO staff that work within the Defence Operations, Collaboration and Military Data Service teams that work under the direction of the Operations and Partner Engagement Manager.

Person specification

Please note that we will only score against the sift and interview criteria and not the desirable information below. The post holder will need:

  • Security clearance or capable of achieving such.
  • Demonstrable recent (within last 3 years) experience of line management for peers and subordinates.
  • Good working knowledge of current UK Defence & Alliance (NATO and FVEYS) Command structures with a focus on the maritime domain.
  • A strong team-work ethic & proven track record as a team player, leader in a workforce support role.
  • Possess the confidence to prepare and deliver presentations up to 1* level with robust communications skills across wide organisational departments and with external customers and suppliers.
  • Must demonstrate experience of delivering innovative solutions to meet emergent requirements across the collaboration and data exchange domains

Process:   

  • Single Stage Interview at our Head Office in taunton, Somerset. You will be contacted to book a suitable slot if you are shortlisted (see our Candidate Pack for further information) 
  • Interview will be with a panel of no more than 3 people and will last approx. 50 mins 
  • PRESENTATION: As part of the interview process you may eb asked to pre-prepare and presnt to the Panel, this will be used to assess the Communicating and Influencing Behavior. 

Onboarding Checks:

Nationality and Residency Requirements 

This is a Ministry of Defence reserved post and strictly open to sole UK nationals only. Successful applicants will require a security clearance (SC) and therefore need to have resided in the UK for a minimum of 12 consecutive months within the last 5 years.
