Job description

The Digital and Information Technology (DIT) Team has an exciting opportunity for a Business Manager to join our close-knit and hard working team.

The Business Manager will support the Hd of DIT and DIT colleagues in managing and overseeing the BMT function, providing DIT governance support co-ordination and facilitation of corporate returns. 

This role is also responsible for running the Reward and Recognition process, audits of security, attendance, absence and Performance reporting procedures. The role will also act as a focal point for team comms, including quarterly newsletter, All Staff Briefings and blogs.

DIT is currently engaged in a large recruitment exercise and the role will support this work as required, acting as a focal point between DIT and DBS Resourcing and Recruitment teams to ensure timely approvals and processing, and assisting line managers to ensure appropriate mechanisms are utilised across our team. The Business Manager will also ensure our workforce numbers are accurate and assist in developing our fortnightly Workforce Committee packs when required to meet customer requirements working closely alongside our Strategic Workforce Planning Lead.  

Responsibilities

  • Line management responsibilities for members of the Business Management Team, coaching and mentoring direct reports, monitoring performance levels in accordance with MOD standards, and building a flexible and resilient team   
  • Ensuring DIT governance is fit for purpose and appropriate support is provided, attending office to facilitate weekly management meetings in person 
  • Facilitating DIT Corporate returns 
  • Customer Service Excellence 
  • Business support to Senior Leadership Team (SLT) 
  • Management of IYR and Thankyous for DIT 
  • Developing, maintaining and organising comms on behalf of HD of DIT, including newsletter, Blog, All Staff Emails, All Staff Briefings etc 
  • Co-ordinating BMT business continuity plan,
  • Oversee Finance and Contracts Management across DIT 
  • Oversee Head of DIT Communications 
  • Oversee Training and Apprenticeship Management across DIT 
  • Oversee Vacancy Management and Workforce Recruitment 
  • Oversee Head of DIT Diary and Mailbox Management 
  • Additional and ad hoc business management activities/projects 
  • Co-ordinate DIT specific induction process 
  • Create, maintain and co-ordinate central DIT actions and decisions log   
  • Attend Team People Lead fortnightly meeting, raising any DIT specific queries 
  • Review and approve/reject Team Vacancy Approvals

Work closely with Resourcing and Recruitment team colleagues on DIT specific queries, including co-ordination of DIT recruitments and attendance at weekly recruitment team meetings with relevant stakeholders

Person specification

  • Competence in using Excel (V-lookups, pivot tables) and experience using databases and PowerPoint. 
  • Stakeholder engagement and management with a range of stakeholders both within and outside your immediate team. 
  • Ability to communicate and convey proposals, ideas and recommendations to different audiences. 
  • Ability to balance the requirements of several stakeholders, their priorities and deadlines, with agility and diplomacy. 
  • Self-motivation to plan, develop and deliver significant pieces of work with light touch management, whilst also being part of a team which needs to pivot to deliver an overriding priority on occasion. 
  • Enthusiasm for own and colleagues continuing professional development.
