Job description

DBS delivers a broad range of services to Defence, supported by the Defence & Information Technology (DIT) Enabling Pillar. Release and Environments Management is part of Change Delivery Services within DIT.

DBS has gone through a transition phase of moving Human Resources and Payroll application platforms to Oracle Cloud which has introduced new ways of working and managing future changes, releases, and manageability of environments which this role will be heavily involved in.

What will the successful candidate be doing?

  • Being a part of the Cloud environments team to help manage the Cloud environments for the end user.  
  • Communicating with the users, via emails and Team’s Meetings, to inform them of upcoming refreshes and other information that they may require. 
  • Providing access and required roles for users to be able to work within the environments.
  • Having a good eye for detail to ensure that all data entered is accurate and correct. 
  • Planning to ensure that all tasks are completed, and the necessary communications sent out to the end user.  
  • Keeping all key documentation and trackers up to date as well as completing new documentation for tasks as they happen. 
  • Chairing and attending meetings and being able to take away key tasks and action them accordingly. 
  • Working to deadlines and understanding what barriers you might come across and how to navigate around them. 
  • Working with other teams to ensure all tasks are done in a timely manner and working to tight deadlines. 
  • Being able to adapt to a changing workload and being able to prioritise work as it comes in.
  • Having an appreciation of changes to be made within the environments as an end-to-end process from the requirement, environment for development and test, through to approval for release.   
  • Being a part of the release team to ensure that releases are scheduled and delivered accordingly and working with the Change team to ensure the stakeholders know what is going to be in each release and when it is going to be applied to the environments. 
  • Working with the Change Team, Business, Developers and Test Team to ensure the release is put into the correct environment and being a part of the process to release any changes into these environments. 

Person specification

Successful candidates will require good management, communication and stakeholder skills plus, an aptitude for working with data and information systems.

Experience/Appreciation of:

  • Release management
  • Working in an IT Release, such as Cloud deployment environment
  • Working with various stakeholders and managing customer expectations
  • Working to flexible, tight timescales
  • Manage high volumes of change to meet a Release
