Job summary

At Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S), we supply and maintain vital equipment and services for the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force. Together, we deliver a vast range of essential defence programmes, and strive for what's next. Because it helps keep our military at the top of their game and our nation safe – for today, and tomorrow.

We offer 25+ days’ holiday, flexible and hybrid working, enhanced parental leave schemes, shopping discounts, and an exceptional employer pension contribution of around 27%, to help make work work for you.

This role requires you to have lived in the UK for the last 5 years and obtain Security Check (SC) security clearance. Clearance must be obtained without any caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role you’ve been recruited for. If it isn’t obtained, or is obtained but with caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role, any conditional offer made to you will be withdrawn. Obtaining SC security clearance can be a lengthy process, and we reserve the right to withdraw any conditional offer made if the necessary security clearance isn’t obtained within 12 months.

Job description

Are you an experienced Engineer eager to advance your career by contributing to DE&S most sophisticated and advanced warship to date? Would you be interested in the opportunity to work on military platforms and systems?

This is an opportunity to be a key member of the Ship Acquisition Type 26 Global Combat Ship (T26 GCS) team. This ship is the latest in a long line of maritime capability generation for the Royal Navy. With a multi-role mission bay and a flight deck capable of landing a range of large helicopters, it will provide the capability and flexibility to compete in both modern and future threat environments.

As our Hull and Outfit Engineering Manager, you will manage the hull and outfit teams who are witnessing activity associated with the acceptance  and contractual approval  of the vessels being built on the Clyde. You will lead the team to oversee the acceptance and assurance of the hull and outfit of the ships through the various stages of outfit and through to ship handover in preparation for the commencement of commissioning activities and contractor sea trials.

Please note that regular attendance at the Scotstoun work location is essential, with occasional travel required between the Scotstoun and Govan shipyards, as well as occasional visits to supplier premises. The successful applicant is expected to reside within a reasonable commuting distance.

Please also be advised that this is a physically demanding role, and the successful applicant will undertake ship and ship-in-build surveillance and inspection activities. These activities may include but are not limited to, climbing vertical ladders, working at height and in confined spaces – suitable training will be provided.

We champion flexible ways of working. Regular in-person attendance is required to promote the benefits of face-to-face collaboration alongside flexibility of hours to support work-life balance. Initially, you may be expected to attend more frequently to familiarise yourselves with the site, the team, and your role.
