Job summary

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic Data Protection & Information Governance Apprentice to join our Data and Information Governance team within the Digital and Technology Group. 

This is a full-time opportunity, on a 19 month fixed term contract basis. The role will be based in 10 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf London, E14 4PU. Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.  

Government departments and agencies are working towards implementing a minimum 60% attendance in office sites.  

 

We are currently implementing a flexible, hybrid way of working, with a minimum of 8 days per month working on site to enable the collaboration and contact with partners and stakeholders needed to deliver MHRA business. Attendance on site is driven by business needs so depending on the nature of the role, this can flex up to 12 days a month, with the remainder of time worked either remotely or in the office. Some roles will need to be on site more regularly.

The Digital and Technology Group (D&T) lies at the heart of the Agency and is responsible for delivering an optimised IT infrastructure and maximising the secure use of data to enable the rest of the organisation to deliver world class services. Its centre of excellence is also responsible for delivering a broad portfolio of change initiatives, both to transform the Agency’s legacy technologies and to deliver innovative new solutions, designed around our customers’ needs. D&T works in a holistic way to combine digital and technology change, data and information management, project delivery, business process, product management and cultural change to maximise out impact and ensure sustainability. 

The Data & Information Governance team is responsible for setting the MHRA’s standards and frameworks for our management and use of data and information, ensuring that the Agency can access the data it needs when it needs it and draw maximum insight from the data it holds. 

Job description

What’s the role? 

As a Data Protection and Information Governance Apprentice, you will be developed through training to support the Data Protection Officer and the Knowledge & Information Management Team. You will be responsible for a range of duties including managing a caseload of active data protection queries and requests for advice, managing and advising on Individual Rights Requests, and for completing personal data breach reviews and investigations. 

Key responsibilities: 

 

  • Work with the Data Protection Officer to support other colleagues across the department to understand the requirements of and to comply with Data Protection Legislation. 
  • Manage a caseload of active requests for advice and queries, individual information rights requests, including the gathering of information, meeting relevant deadlines, and reviewing and updating the live casework registers.  
  • Carry out data breach reviews and support with investigations as required.  
  • Co-ordinate records management and retention of digital files and paperwork to ensure personal data and information is retained in line with data protection legislation and contractual requirements.  

Person specification

Our successful candidate will:  

  • Have experience using technology such as Microsoft 365 products 
  • Have GCSEs in Matha and English (minimum grade 4/C) 
  • Be able to identify and seek learning opportunities and take developmental feedback 
  • Be able to build and maintain relationships.
