Job summary

We are currently looking for two Data Management Coordinators to join our Reference Data team within the Digital & Technology group.

These are full-time opportunities, on a permanent basis. These roles will be based in 10 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf London, E14 4PU. Please be aware that these roles can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.  

Government departments and agencies are working towards implementing a minimum 60% attendance in office sites.

We are currently implementing a flexible, hybrid way of working, with a minimum of 4 days per month working on site to enable the collaboration and contact with partners and stakeholders needed to deliver MHRA business. Attendance on site is driven by business needs so depending on the nature of the role, this can flex up to 8 days a month, with the remainder of time worked either remotely or in the office. Some roles will need to be on site more regularly.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research.  

The Digital and Technology Group (D&T) lies at the heart of the Agency and is responsible for delivering an optimised IT infrastructure and maximising the secure use of data to enable our scientists, inspectors, and the rest of the organisation to deliver world class services which can improve outcomes for patients and the general public. The Group was essential in the race to approve COVID-19 vaccines in 2020 and in supporting the UK to set up its own medicines and devices approvals systems following our exit from the EU. This is an exciting time for the Group as we develop and build a new Regulatory Management System. The work we do matters!

The Reference Data team is responsible for maintaining the substance dictionary and other data sets and data dictionaries in the Agency – including, but not limited to company addresses and contact data, as well as new data sets and dictionaries introduced as part of the new regulatory management system.

The team is also responsible for creating and maintaining data in the new substance database, a key component of the new regulatory management system. 

Job description

What’s the role?

The purpose of the Data Management Coordinator role is to maintain the existing dictionary and forthcoming database of substance data  used in medicinal products, and assist with maintenance of organisation names, addresses and associated data; and other data dictionaries as required.

This role is critical in ensuring that the data in our new substance database is of good quality, fit for purpose, and meets international standards. Substances used in medicinal products include chemical, biological, biochemical and herbal substances.

 

Key responsibilities: 

  • To add, maintain and update the substance dictionary and new substance database in a timely manner within deadlines.

 

  • Respond to requests for addition and amendment of organisation name, address and contact data, and other reference data, within deadlines.

 

  • Investigate appropriate information sources to ensure the accuracy, avoiding duplication, of data added to MHRA system dictionaries.

 

  • Advise on the correct use of terms within the MHRA system dictionaries.

Who are we looking for? 

 

Our successful candidates will have:

  • A life science degree with a good knowledge of chemistry; or degree in chemistry, or equivalent, with a good knowledge of biology; or a combined chemistry and biology/biological science/biomedical science degree; or equivalent experience
  • Experience working to a high degree of accuracy and with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Good information search skills
  • A keen interest and awareness in data management and analytics
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
