Job summary

This is a rare chance to shape the future Data landscape in a fast growing, national organisation with real social purpose. Working within the Data and Analytics team you will ensure efficient, consistent, and effective resolution of engineering challenges, and help document and maintain the data processes and schema which underpin system and analysis right across Homes England.

Job description

You will be learning from the Senior Manager, but have significant autonomy to refine and improve existing PostgreSQL processes and functions, and to implement new solutions to improve efficiency or adaptability. You will also have the chance to learn and lead on the management, documentation and ingestion of data into the Data Science teams own data catalog, as part of the new analytical platform (using Databricks, Azure Dev Ops, Unity Catalog and Purview).  

 

As a Data Engineer you will also have opportunities to work alongside the engineering team developing our Azure Data Platform. You will be helping to grow our team of talented Data professionals, who are committed to making Homes England a Data-led organisation. To deliver this you will have opportunities to learn and utilise the latest tools and technologies such as Azure Databricks, Computer Vision and, Azure Machine Learning alongside languages such as PySpark and SQL.

 

You will work with data colleagues collaboratively, taking an innovative and creative approach to automated data, analytics and reporting. We value diversity in experience and perspective to foster good decision-making and problem solving within our team.

Person specification

You are resilient, self-motivated and comfortable diving in to data environments and SQL code in particular. Your ideas will be shaped by a good understanding of how data drives and facilitates business delivery. You enjoy working in an innovative and engaging way while delivering high-quality data solutions.

 

You will be able to design, maintain, document and improve SQL processes and functions, to ensure the consistent and accurate flow of data between sources, and transform this data based on the requirements of the analysis and data teams. To deliver this you will be able to work with SQL code and associated tools (we use PostgreSQL database and PGAdmin), and be interested in our move toward cloud technologies (Azure) and new coding skills (Python).

 

The solutions we deliver should be reusable and scalable with a focus on consistency and maintainability. You will be able to review existing processes and improve them while thinking about resilience, efficiency and performance. As part of this you should have a desire to learn and explore new technologies.

 

As an experienced Digital professional, you’ll understand how to manage relationships with colleagues and be able to demonstrate you can work with others as part of a team in a collaborative, inclusive way.
