Job summary

The Food Standards Agency is a small government department with a big mission: to keep food safe, ensure what it says it is, and that it is increasingly healthy and more sustainable. We are led by science and data in our work to serve consumers. Our Northern Ireland directorate carries out its own additional responsibilities, and so the way we incorporate data is even more pressing an issue.

We are looking for a Data Analyst who can help us improve the way we use data and performance monitoring in our work. You’ll work to transform the design, implementation and management of an enhanced data and performance reporting system and framework for the directorate.

Job description

Improving operational effectiveness, efficiency and compliance for all data within the Northern Ireland directorate, your work will have a significant impact on the way we deliver our work. You’ll help to ensure integrity and transparency within our performance indicators, using your problem-solving skills to find solutions to problems and better enable us to make the most of our data.

Though you’ll be comfortable working under your own initiative, you’ll also be a talented collaborator who can build effective working relationships and foster networks to better support the delivery of this important work.

Selection process details

Application and shortlisting

You will be asked to provide personal details (not seen by the Panel) and to confirm your eligibility to apply for the role.

You will then be asked to complete an application which will be used to assess you against the following essential and desirable criteria. (Desirable criteria will only be assessed in the event of a tie between candidates).

Essential criteria

Experience

  • Lead criteria: Proven experience of design, investigating, analysing, interpreting, visualizing and articulating multiple data streams in order to consolidate into a centralised, prioritised and modern reporting function.
  • Demonstrable experience of designing and delivering data and performance reporting solutions by examining process flows and business user needs, which support improvements in operational performance.
  • Proven experience of successful collaboration with senior and specialist internal and external stakeholders to build relationships and communicate complex data and insights effectively to deliver end to end people data solutions that meet user needs including interpreting and visualizing information in a clear and concise manner
  • In-depth experience of using data and business analysis software/tools, including substantial PowerBi, Sharepoint and Excel knowledge

Experience   

  • Experience of working with SQL and/or other data programming tools

Lead Criteria An initial sift may take place on just the identified Lead Criteria indicated.

In the event that we receive a large number of applications, the minimum pass mark for the Lead Criteria may be raised at shortlisting stage. Candidates who apply under the DCS, GPTW or RIS schemes and meet the minimum requirements will be unaffected by the pass mark raise.

Interview

If successful at shortlisting stage, you will be invited to a final interview in which we will assess you against the following Civil Service Behaviours Level 3
