Job summary

This is a specialist technical communications unit formed from military, civil service and contractor personnel. Teams provide IT and communications support to static units and forward deployed personnel, delivering operationally crucial services over a wide geographical area. The roles are technologically challenging, with wide scope of personal development and progression, and are centred at the very heart of operations.

The position of the Crypto Accountant is a Developed Vetting post (DV) and will require a vetting procedure and a Sensitive Post Check (SPC) to be conducted prior to any offer of employment.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

This newly established position is an ambitious and exciting opportunity which requires good judgement, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively prioritise tasks.
The Crypto Accountant will be working part of the Operations Team and is responsible to the Custodian Officer for the whole life accounting for all deployed and static Cryptographic/Secure media material held on account, ensuring the safe handling and the distribution/disposal of these items are recorded and controlled appropriately.

Person specification

As a Crypto Accountant, you will:
• Maintain actual custody, handling, safeguarding and destruction of all crypto and secure material received from any issuing authority.
• Maintain the crypto/media ledger of items received and all issues made by the department.
• Maintain day to day account of the cryptographic and secure media items and being able to react to time-based requirements.
• Assist scheduled cryptographic changes as advised.
• Submit periodic returns to the Crypto Distribution Agency (CDA) when requested.
• Complete quarterly and 100% musters of all items on account and sub accounts.
• Conduct weekly check of all stored material.
• Maintaining a filing system for crypto/media correspondence as required by the custodian.
• Registering classified correspondence in the designated MOD Form 102 or appropriate Database.
• Keeping the access list, emergency destruction and evacuation/fire plans up to date.
• Controlling access to the store and office.
• Preparation and dispatch of crypto material by courier.
• Conduct resupply as advised by the custodian officer.
• Actively seek to improve working practices.
• Complete all HR responsibilities to include all mandatory training required for the grade.
• Any additional tasks commensurate to skill-set and grade.

Mandatory requirements to be completed within the first 12 months.

  • Complete a Crypto accountants course - Essential.
  • ITIL Foundation - Desirable.
  • All Civil Service mandatory training to be completed respective of the grade.
