Job summary

The NCA Control Centre is the resilient, highly skilled and highly Capable 24/7 Situational Awareness Hub that sits at the heart of the National Crime Agency. 

Part of National Tasking and Co-ordination (NTaC) under the Intelligence Directorate, the NCA Control Centre operates a 24/7, 365  day a year service to maintain vital situational awareness of the NCAs  operational activity. The NCA Control Centre provides the ideal environment to gain an in depth understanding of the wider NCA and build relationships with its Stakeholders, both home and abroad.  

The NCA Control Centre works 24/7 365 days a year and officers within this team are required to work shifts on a 5 weekly pattern (which will include nights, weekends and bank holidays).

Job description

Today a large quantity drugs seizure at a UK Port, tomorrow an international critical incident…no day is the same in the NCA Control Centre.  Part of National Tasking and Co-ordination (NTaC) under the NCA  Intelligence Directorate, we operate a 24/7, 365 days a year service as the beating heart of situational awareness.

The Control Centre is the first point of contact for a variety of calls and correspondence received by the NCA. They monitor NCA Operational activity and deployments and provide 24/7 support to other NCA teams within the UK and abroad. The Control Centre provides the NCA Command team with situational awareness of operational capacity, capability, effectiveness and support to Critical Incident commanders. They also provide intelligence support, business continuity management, referrals and provide specialist advice. The work of a Control Centre Officer is extremely varied and includes safeguarding, intelligence management, INTERPOL case work and assisting many other areas of the NCA business. The Control Centre is a dynamic environment dealing with time sensitive situations and is an excellent opportunity for new staff joining the agency to work with a wide spectrum of NCA Teams and Partner Agencies. All officers working in this environment are required to pass a psychological assessment before final offer and to have regular psychological assessments thereafter.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Employ written and verbal communication skills to service Urgent, enquiries from domestic and international Law Enforcement Partners and keep clear channels of communication open (Carter, Airwave, AtHoc) with deployed NCA Officers. 
  • Effectively prioritise and manage urgent, time sensitive enquiries received from members of the public, providing them with a clear understanding of how the NCA will progress and resolve their issue. 
  • Adhering to agency policy and process utilise a range of decision making, prioritisation and risk assessment techniques, including the 4T and National Decision Model (NDM) to establish a suitable course of action.
  • Utilise a range of internal and nationally recognised intelligence systems, both open and closed source, to provide intelligence support services and Situational Awareness capabilities to both internal and external Partners.   
  • Assess, develop, record and disseminate both sensitive and non-sensitive intelligence received into the NCA and disseminate to both domestic and international Law Enforcement Partners in line with the National Intelligence Model (NIM). 
  • Mentor, train and develop colleagues to increase skills and capabilities resilience within the NCA Control Centre.

Interview Details 

You will then be asked to attend an interview in order to have a more in-depth discussion of your previous experience and professional competence. 

There will be 1 round of interviews where the candidates will be assessed against the above listed Behaviours and Technical skills.

Interviews will take place throughout September and October 2024 - locations to be confirmed. However the interview is conducted, the interview criteria will remain as detailed within this advert.

Interview Outcome

Multi-Location

Loan/Secondment

This role is being advertised on a permanent basis. If preferable, Loan or Secondment options will also be available for existing Civil Servants (Loan) and applicants from accredited NDPBs or any other employer (Secondment). In the case of Civil Servants, the terms of the loan will be agreed between the home and host department and the Civil Servant. This includes grade on return.

Near Miss 

If you are not found appointable at the advertised grade you may be offered the lower grade role if you are considered to meet the skills, experience and behaviours for the lower level. The benchmark for appointing to the lower grade is set at the start of each campaign. All offers will be made in merit.

If you are found appointable at the higher grade but there are no positions available you may be offered an appointment at the lower grade.

Additional Information 

  • The NCA is a 24/7 organisation, and working patterns must support business requirements. Some roles may require you to respond at short notice or outside of core hours.
  • Individuals will be required to undertake and pass a substance misuse test as part of pre-employment checks.
  • Successful candidates may be required to undertake a medical. If required, the medical will take place in either London or Warrington. Unfortunately, travel costs will not be reimbursed.

VETTING REQUIREMENTS SC
