Job summary
This role is an exciting opportunity to join a small team who support Dstl and other Government agencies to undertake the thermal destruction of waste.
Based at Porton Down, the Dstl Specialist Facilities Group is responsible for disposing of hazardous waste produced by Dstl, other government agencies and external companies. We operate the incinerator, a national asset and our main disposal facility for hazardous, clinical, explosive, radiological and sensitive wastes.
The Compliance Manager role will support the Team Leader to ensure that.
- Mandatory and role specific training is arranged for, and completed by, site personnel.
- Risk assessments and operating procedures are managed, updated and compliant with legislation.
- Site tasks and operations are compliant with procedures, risk assessments and permit conditions through regular auditing.
- Changing requirements, regulations and legislation are adhered to.
Job description
You will be working under the direction of the Team Leader to:
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure training is arranged and completed as required.
- Produce reports for the Team Leader demonstrating site compliance.
- Manage site specific procedures and risk assessments.
- Manage and work to relevant safety and site procedures.
- Work to and ensure compliance with the site quality standards.
- Maintain staff training and competency records.
- Undertake reporting, inspection and auditing.
- Manage the improvements register.
- Collaborate with other Dstl departments, for example Health and Safety, Training and Permit Control Office.
- Manage compliance with the working time directive for the shift team.
- Manage change control.
- Ensure compliance with the Environment Agency Environmental permit.
Person specification
We are looking for someone who has:
- Proven data management skills including the use of spreadsheets and databases
- Effective communication skills at all levels.
- Experience/proven knowledge of using spreadsheets and databases
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word & Excel.
- Experience/proven knowledge of using spreadsheets and databases
- Driving license B and own transport.
