As a Compliance Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in contributing to compliance or enforcement activities concerning energy suppliers, scheme participants, and other regulated entities. This involves producing high-quality, timely, and robust analyses of potential issues. 

Your responsibilities extend to making evidence-based recommendations. This includes identifying and escalating key issues as well as assisting in the management of risk and ensuring a proactive approach to maintaining compliance standards. 

Furthermore, your role also involves engaging with both internal and external stakeholders such as Colleagues in the Compliance and Enforcement Profession and Colleagues in other Delivery & Schemes portfolios including Operations, Policy and Digital to effectively communicate the benefits, challenges, and trade-offs of potential compliance or enforcement actions to senior colleagues and representing Ofgem externally and building constructive stakeholder relationships to ensure challenges and issues are identified and resolved in consumers’ interests. 

You will gather and document intelligence on compliance to inform casework, which is crucial for effective enforcement. This may include interactions with whistleblowers when relevant, ensuring a comprehensive approach to compliance analysis and enforcement.

Job description

Delivery and Schemes is part of the delivery directorate of Ofgem and works on the administration of Environmental and Social schemes. This role sits within the Audit & Compliance Hub and will be part of the Compliance and Enforcement profession within Ofgem. This team ensures energy suppliers or scheme participants are acting in accordance with relevant legislation. We currently administer 10 environmental and social schemes, valued at approximately £9bn a year in consumer and taxpayer’s money.

The purpose of the Excel Analyst role within the Hub is expected to be adaptive in providing support to meet the needs of the Hub. The role plays an important part in ensuring the scheme’s error calculations are accurately represented, through the case-by-case calculation of individual error values to the application of the audit results to the total population to give total scheme error rates. The role also involves producing visuals for internal and external stakeholders on the performance and findings of the audit programs.  There is scope to be involved in individual ad-hoc projects across the team.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will vary depending on the needs of the organisation but may include:

  • Providing Excel support inclusive of producing automated reports and trackers.
  • Ensuring that the Audit/Compliance calculations are accurately done and in accordance with the rules of the scheme and processing any adjustments.
  • Manage the Audit/Compliance calculation processes, liaising with internal and external colleagues as required.
  • Understand the statistics behind the audit program and keep them in line with the motivations of the program.
  • Analyse data and identify key trends and feedback to the wider team.
  • Produce reports as required to illustrate analysis of relevant figures.
  • Interacting with external stakeholders (obligated suppliers or participants) providing challenge to their data and seeking management responses where required.
  • Meeting relevant KPI targets and statutory deadlines.
  • As and when required, you might be deployed to support other projects or schemes within and outside Division and Directorate.

Essential

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel with a focus on complex formulas such Vlookups, Nesting, IF functions, VBA, visualisation in Excel [LEAD].
  • Strong track record in interpretation and analysis of complex information to produce comprehensible reports against challenging timescales.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills paying particular attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
