Job Summary

The successful candidate will  ensure the Trading Team is buying the correct energy volumes for the right sites, producing high quality analysis, present the team’s work to stakeholders from across the public sector and support the projects and procurements of the wider Energy Team. 

The role will be the conduit between Category, Trading, Risk, and the Energy Specialist Team providing assurance at all levels. 

Training on existing infrastructure will be provided, and the successful candidate will be supported with continuing professional development and the opportunity to take formal qualifications.

Commercial Directorate Overview

Commercial is the largest directorate in CCS and is responsible for the design, development, implementation and management of our commercial agreements, which are used by our customers across the public sector. We have helped our customers:

  • spend more than £34 billion through the agreements we create

  • enjoy more than £3.5 billion in commercial benefits annually through our agreements

Category management sits at the heart of CCS. We use our deep knowledge and expertise of public sector suppliers, to create market and category strategies. These strategies are used within CCS to create market leading commercial agreements that help shape how common goods and services are bought across the public sector. Our skills are also used in carrying out commercial policy, development of new products and services and supplier relationship management.

Team Summary

The Portfolio Management Team is situated in the Energy Team, which sits within the Estates Category. The Portfolio Management Team is responsible for the management and accuracy of portfolio information to enable the Trading Team to buy power and gas from the wholesale markets.

Our Commercial Team is transforming to become even more flexible. Candidates should be aware that there will be opportunities to flex into other category areas as required, either to meet business needs and/or for staff development.

Job description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering activities to improve the robustness, quality and efficiency of information practices and processes within the Energy team

  • Supporting the development of a ‘single source of the truth’ for all reporting activities throughout the Energy Team, via quality assessments and identification and delivery of process improvements

  • Identifying and delivering innovative ways to automate and enhance practices within Energy

  • Supporting the review of data management practices across Energy, including interfaces with customers and suppliers

  • Creating and managing processes that are needed for effective quality management across Energy, ensuring processes are implemented and maintained across the team

  • Support the management of Energy frameworks and to help inform senior leaders 

  • Building strong relationships across Energy and the wider organisation to understand requirements and engage with relevant stakeholders

  • Supporting related procurement activities

Person specification

Essential Criteria (To be assessed at application stage):

  • Works effectively with others with clear engaging communication: persuasive and co-operative, able to build strong relationships, enjoys helping people

  • Energy industry experience

  • High degree of commercial numeracy and problem solving, confident working with numerical data to draw conclusions and make recommendations whilst thinking logically

  • IT capability: a high standard of general IT literacy including practical application of SQL and/or similar language(s)
