Job summary

We’re looking for an exceptional Commercial Manager to help us make a difference to our planet.

As our Commercial Manager, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

Our opportunity is full time, 37 hours per week. Our people are at the heart of what we do and we'll do our best to agree a working pattern that works for everyone.

Whilst this is a temporary position until July 2025, there is potential for it to develop into a permanent position.

Job description

Your world of expertise

You will manage commercial activities and provide professional commercial advice to ensure engagements (including contracts and partnerships) are legally and ethically compliant.

Your key duties

  • Works alongside stakeholders to identify and agree present and future needs, linkages to other areas of activity and related potential needs for Commercial.
  • Evaluates specific Commercial risks and applying appropriate risk mitigation techniques.
  • Leads on the end-to-end procurement (implements premarket engagement, understands market models and market shaping, identifies the appropriate contract, develops bidders’ packs, reviews and clarifies the specification, applies the most appropriate evaluation strategy, and negotiates terms and conditions where required).
  • Uses e-sourcing, e-tendering tools, and other electronic tools, programmes or software as required to support the Commercial lifecycle.
  • Applies the principles of supplier management and managing and evaluating strategic and non-strategic supplier relationships.

Person specification

Essential Criteria, skills and experience:

  • Keep evolving – Fully qualified to MCIPS or equivalent, or working towards.
  • Expert by nature – Experience of undertaking compliant end-to-end procurement requirements.
  • Better Together – Ability to demonstrate strong communication skills at all levels, with both internal and external stakeholders in the sourcing process
  • Live it and breath it - Experience of mentoring and supporting team members to develop others' knowledge, skills and confidence.
  • Expert by nature - Ability to consider long term resilience and stability of supply chains and take opportunities to mitigate risks and develop opportunities, including developing new supply markets to improve or develop competition.
