The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Business Support Officer within our Technology and Business Services (TBS) team. Join us and play a critical role in ensuring effective service delivery that meets our customer's needs.

What you will do 

Our TBS team is currently progressing an innovative customer centered IT service delivery programme, centered around customer needs and our service design principles. As a Business Support Officer, you will support service delivery by assuming responsibility for the co-ordination of the TBS Digital Engagement and Digital Skills programme.

You will assist with the day-to-day running of projects, working with Project Managers and workstream leaders to implement project governance standards and procedures, ensuring that due process is followed, and tasks are efficiently carried out and documented.

You will help develop and enhance engagement tools, including training guidance, workshops and digital content, to ensure that new technology tools, processes and applications, are embedded and adopted by our customers as efficiently as possible.

About you

You will possess excellent organisational skills and can provide experience of prioritising your work to meet deadlines.

Effective communication skills are also essential, along with the ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

You will need a good knowledge and some experience of developing engaging presentations, topic-guides and write ups, pairing this with excellent IT skills and proficiency in using the MS Office Suite.

Job description

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with Project Managers and workstream leaders in the TBS department with the day to day running of projects and ensure that the project is driven forward by updating project documents.
  • Support Project Managers to run their projects in a way that ensures due process is followed, and that organisations tasks, including internal and external meetings, on projects are efficiently carried out and documented.
  • Take the lead, as appropriate, on individual work streams and ensuring effective service delivery through promotion and use of engagement work/tools.
  • Event management/delivery.
  • Governance work.
  • Freedom of Information requests.
  • Provide administrative support to the Project Management Office for a variety of activities and work on ad hoc tasks as directed with the possibility of project managing low risk IT projects and services.

Person specification

It is essential that you can provide evidence and examples for each of the following selection criteria in your application:

  • Excellent organisation skills with experience of managing and prioritising your own work to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong computer literacy, including using MS Office Suite, MS Project and SharePoint, with some experience utilising this to complete project-related tasks.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interpret subject matter/ technical information and adapt communications to aid non-technical audience understanding.
  • Good knowledge and some experience developing engaging and interactive presentations, topic-guides and write ups.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles (opens in a new window), and will assess your Behaviours and Experience.

As part of the application process you will be asked to complete a CV, personal statement and an online application form. Further details about application requirements are listed on the application form.

The selection process will comprise of the sift (CV & application review) and an interview. Arrangements for the interview will be enclosed in the invitation. Interviews will be conducted virtually, by Microsoft Teams. 

At sift all elements of the essential criteria listed under Person Specification (above and in the attached role profile) will then be considered.

The sift will take place week commencing 30 January 2024.

If your application is successful you will be invited to attend an interview. You will be notified via email to log-in to your Civil Service Account and book your interview slot. You will be sent an email with full details of your arrangements for interview.

Interviews will be held week commencing 19 February 2024. 

The interview process will comprise a 45 minute -1 hour panel interview where you will be asked questions based on the Behaviours, and Experience outlined in the role profile.
