Are you a highly skilled Civilian Dental Practitioner (CDP) looking for an exciting role, working alongside the military, which offers numerous benefits and opportunities?

The vacant post is full time, working 37 hours per week. Part-time candidates will be considered but due to service delivery requirements it must be on a job share basis as full-time hours need to be covered.

Job description

A CDP is responsible for providing clinical outputs, improving, and managing the dental health and operational fitness of service personnel.

Within your contracted 37 weekly hours, 2 hours may be attributed to non-clinical activities including practice meetings, training, and personal administration.

Overall, your aim is to maximise the deployability of the Population at Risk for whom you are responsible.

Duties and responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Inspecting all personnel for whom they are responsible at intervals in line with The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines and providing follow up treatment as required.
  • Providing an occupational oral health assessment, being fully conversant with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Dental Fitness categorisation and dental input into the Joint Medical Employment Standard for Service personnel.
  • Ensuring that contemporaneous notes are recorded on individuals integrated electronic healthcare records for all episodes of care.
  • Ensuring that surgery management, documentation including consumable stores, the safe custody of personal sensitive data and the maintenance of equipment is always kept to a high standard.
  • Onward referral of personnel to enhanced practitioners, specialists, or consultants for treatment as appropriate.

Desirable Criteria

•    A background in military dentistry provision and primary dental care.
•    A valid United Kingdom driving license, this is to enable traveling to and working from other local regional dental centres if requested.
•    Evidence of currency with General Dental Council Continuous Professional Development requirements
•    Being prepared to contribute to the development of staff skills and knowledge.
•    Confidence in utilising Information Technology.
•    Participate fully in the Civilian Dental Practitioners performance management and the Clinical Quality Assurance & Appraisal processes
•    Be ready to cover On-Call out of hours duties as part of a regional team, if required.

In-line with the NHS England approach, MOD is in the process of making full vaccination a condition of deployment for its healthcare workers employed across the UK. In order to comply with our duty of care, we require our staff to have the COVID vaccine and we will ask for proof of vaccination status during the recruitment process. There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel, but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home.
