Job summary

This role is based within the Aftercare Team, which sits within the wider Complex Cases Team at UK Security Vetting. The purpose of the Aftercare Team is to investigate anything of security concern, between periods of normal vetting review, which could potentially affect an individual's suitability to hold a national security clearance. We are currently recruiting a Case Officer to join the existing team. This is a complex decision-maker role.

Job description

  • Analyse and assess complex vetting enquiries, identifying potential security risks, and recovering evidence of your decision-making in a written document.
  • Referring to relevant documents to ensure compliance with UKSV processes and policy (Vetting Decision Framework).
  • Making key vetting decisions, using your own professional judgement.
  • Appropriately referring/escalating any high-risk cases when they exceed your own decision-making authority.
  • Mentoring and providing vetting casework advice to team members across the Complex Case Team and wider UKSV when needed.
  • Liaising with clearance holder as and when required.

Person specification

As an Aftercare Case Officer within UK Security Vetting, we are looking for people who have the following expertise and attributes:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; to be able to present information in a clear and concise manner, with attention to detail.
  • Analytical and risk management skills.
  • Confidence in decision-making and the ability to evidence how/why a decision was made.
  • Discretion; vetting confidentiality is paramount in safeguarding the personal information being processed.
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision and manage your own workload.
  • IT Skills, especially in Google applications and Microsoft.

Desirable experience 

  • Knowledge and experience of vetting policy and processes.
  • Knowledge and experience of utilising the NSVS Case Management System.

Additional information:

A minimum 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace. Although requirements to attend other locations for official business will also count towards this level of attendance.
