Job description

The Department for Transport is a high-profile department at the heart of Government. We pride ourselves on first-class, creative communication that tells compelling stories about transport through the people that use it.

Are you a talented and confident Marketing or Campaign Manager who wants to deliver insight-driven behaviour change and awareness raising communications across a range of paid campaigns, including the award-winning THINK! road safety campaign?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Campaign Manager to join our team! The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day planning, delivery and evaluation of innovative paid campaigns. You will be working closely with creative, media planning and research agencies, forging strong relationships with stakeholders, policy officials and Ministers’ offices.

You will also support the running of campaign social channels, ensuring a strategic and creative approach to engaging target audiences and key stakeholders. A good understanding of paid and organic social media marketing is important, and we’d be keen to hear from anyone who also has experience of digital content creation and community management.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting campaign planning and delivery across above and below the line channels including broadcast (e.g. radio, video on demand), PR, digital and social media platforms, and brand and media partnerships.
  • Working collaboratively with external commercial agencies to deliver high quality, cost effective creative content to agreed timescales and budget, and to agree and implement multi-channel media plans.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of evaluation plans to assess impact and effectiveness of campaign activity, applying learnings to future activity.
  • Supporting management of social channels, ensuring alignment with paid campaign plans, and using digital tools to monitor and evaluate performance and identify trends. This could also include creating image or video content for organic social activity.
  • Managing day-to-day finance tasks including raising PO's, processing goods receipts, and keeping track of spend against budget forecasts.

Person specification

About you:

The successful candidate will have:

  • A strong background in marketing with a good understanding of marketing best practice.
  • Experience of supporting the planning and implementation of insight-based multi-channel campaigns.
  • Excellent stakeholder management experience, including working with external agencies.
  • Demonstrating a strong understanding of a broad range of paid media channels.
  • The value of evaluation and experience of applying different methods to demonstrate the impact of paid campaigns.
  • Paid and organic social media marketing, and experience of managing and monitoring the performance of social channels.
  • Have the ability to priorities effectively, managing different project streams and timelines.
  • Be an excellent team player!

Additional Information:

A minimum 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance. 

Occasional travel to other DfT offices will be required.
