Job summary

This post sits within the Intelligence Team, who carry out work for the whole of the Insolvency Service. The Team’s objective is to deliver an intelligence capability for the agency. This supports the targeting and investigation of cases, look at key threats and, ultimately, to gather information and develop analysis which will contribute to the Agency's investigation and enforcement effort. It will also help the Agency to participate effectively in cross-government regulatory and enforcement action at both a strategic and tactical level.

Although the post is not location specific, a large proportion of the team are based at Cannon House Birmingham, and regular attendance at the Birmingham office or another regional location may be required.

The demands upon the post can be unpredictable and the incumbent will need to be flexible. Travel within the UK is sometimes required and could involve overnight stays.

Job description

Reporting to the C2 Deputy Head of Intelligence and working within the Intelligence Team, you are expected to participate in and, where necessary, lead on activities across the spectrum of the team’s responsibilities. The post will also involve, from time to time, working closely with other parts of Insolvency Service, Senior Management, other operational teams and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities 

The duties of the post may vary widely and can include:

  • assessing, disseminating and actioning complex intelligence referrals received by the team, including the development of strategic analysis of thematic issues
  • identifying and monitoring relevant intelligence subjects and emerging threats and preparing assessments, profiles and wider thematic work together with recommendations
  • contributing to the development of processes, skills and analysis capability to enable the Agency to make better use of intelligence and provide worthwhile intelligence products both internally and externally
  • building and managing key relationships with our stakeholders in the regulatory and enforcement community, including negotiating and developing joint endeavours with other agencies and promoting the work of the Agency
  • Functioning as the Single Point of Contact with allocated organisations, ensuring regular communication, intelligence exchange and functioning as the contact to facilitate evidential exchange
  • carrying out assessments of high profile insolvent and live company cases. Such work can often be at short notice and require delivery within tight deadlines
  • representing the team and promoting the intelligence agenda to the Agency’s operational businesses, this would include promoting and providing training
  • reviewing and submitting Suspicious Activity Reports to the National Crime Agency
  • dealing with ad hoc technical requests coming into the Intelligence Team from other parts of the Agency and external stakeholders
  • attendance at regular training events, and Intelligence forums / conferences
  • working with the anti-money laundering cell and Companies House team (both within the Intelligence teams) to ensure effective collaboration on referrals and ensuring all intelligence is input and effectively used in CLUE, the new Intelligence database.

Person specification

The successful candidate will need an inquisitive mind and be able to constructively challenge at all levels in order to achieve positive outcomes.

They will have experience in Intelligence or Investigations

They will be a self-starter and be able to gather information from multiple sources. They will work to achieve team goals and targets. They will work to deliver agreed outcomes.

They will be able to work within tight and sometimes competing deadlines and therefore must be organised.

They must be able to build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery of business outcomes and possess good interpersonal skills and communication skills both written and verbal.  

Essential Criteria 

You will have a proven track record in Intelligence and or Investigations.

You must be capable of attaining SC security clearance.

Selection process details

Hybrid Working
