Job summary

The UKHSA North West Region is part of the Regions Directorate within UKHSA’s Health Protection Operations Group. Our well-established business support team works in an integrated way across multiple sites supporting three health protection teams made up of Consultants in Health Protection, Health Protection Practitioners, Surveillance Scientists and Emergency Preparedness professionals.

We are seeking to recruit an experienced, motivated, and enthusiastic Business Support Manager to join the busy Greater Manchester Business Support Team. We are looking for someone to work collaboratively with the region’s Operations Management Team whilst managing the Greater Manchester Business Support Team.  Experience in line management or leadership / supervision is essential to this role as well as proven administration and organisational skills.  The candidate will be expected to have experience supporting senior staff, event planning, implementing and maintaining office systems and health and safety practice.  As well as leading and supporting specific projects, managing their own workload, be highly motivated and flexible.   

Job description

Reporting to the Business Operations Manager, the Business Support Manager is a senior post with line-management responsibilities. The successful candidate will work as part of a dynamic team supporting staff to deliver a comprehensive, efficient, customer-focused administrative service. The post holder will lead on multiple business support functions, implementing and maintaining processes that include HR, IT, finance, IG, H&S, business continuity, accommodation. Developing good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders is an expectation of the role.

This is a diverse role involving undertaking secretariat functions, administering meetings, producing reports for senior staff or meetings. The ability to work autonomously, to tight timescales, be able to organise a varied and busy workload, for themselves and the Business Support Team, lead a team effectively, manage team dynamics, have advanced knowledge of using Microsoft Office packages and experience using MS Teams is required.

 Post location

The successful candidate will be contractually based at 3 Piccadilly  Place, Manchester. The role will include hybrid working which allows for staff who can operate remotely at home and in the office, to fulfil their role and responsibilities in line with the team and UKHSA’s policies and guidance. On non-office days, the individual may work from home. Other travel from time to time may be required.

Selection process details

Stage 1 - Application & Sift: 

This vacancy will use competency based questions to assess the behaviours, experience, ability, technical skills/qualifications, strengths and commitment to equality and diversity detailed in the essential person specification.

As part of the application process you will be asked to provide a detailed Personal Statement / Statement of Suitability of up to 1500 words which will be assessed in line with the criteria listed in the person specification.

Stage 2 – Interview

Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed for this role is BPSS 

Interviews are expected be held in late February or March 2024 although this may change if a high volume of applications are received.
