Job description

You’ll be a key part of the GOV.UK Operations Team and play a critical part in ensuring that all of the underpinning business functions are managed effectively. You’ll be taking direction from the Business Operations Analyst and be responsible for outputs of specific tasks including monitoring and reporting and ensuring join up with the corporate centre. 

As Business Support you’ll be involved with:

  • ownership of GOV.UK People plan, including leavers and starters using appropriate tools and techniques that will support the planning, analysis, and improvement of services within GOV.UK 
  • business planning: assisting the annual and quarterly business planning process
  • assisting with the recruitment process and campaigns for civil servants and contractors. Proactively plan to sift and interview panels ensuring all involved are equipped with all necessary information
  • overseeing the Reward and Recognition and Learning and Development processes, gaining approvals and keeping accurate records to ensure we remain within budget and carry out analysis to ensure even distribution across the community and grade
  • provide ad hoc reporting on headcount, recruitment, and budgets, as required by Head of Operations and the Senior Leadership Team
  • Identify and making process improvements and communicate these across the Programme
  • prioritise and respond to emails the operations team shared inbox in an appropriate and timely manner
  • use initiative, working independently to provide an excellent and consistent service to stakeholders and external suppliers

Person specification

We’re interested in people who have:

  • excellent time management skills, able to coordinate multiple diaries for recruitment panels, adapting quickly to changes to ensure smooth and effective management of time
  • excellent administration skills and experience providing support, with strong attention to detail and the ability to adapt these skills in a complex and fast-paced working environment
  • significant data analysis skills and who can present complex information clearly using Excel with a desire to use new tools to support delivery
  • excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to communicate concisely and coherently to a variety of audiences
  • are able to handle sensitive information, displaying tact and diplomacy and maintaining confidentiality storing records securely in line with GDPR practices 
  • experience working in a digital and Agile environment and an awareness of Agile tools and how to use them.

GDS offers hybrid working for all employees. This means that everyone does some working from home and also spends some time in their local office. You’ll agree to your hybrid working arrangement with your line manager in line with your preferences and business needs.

Selection process details

The standard selection process for roles at GDS consists of:

  • a simple application screening process - We only ask for a CV and cover letter of up to 750 words. Important tip - please ensure that your cover letter includes how you meet the skills and experience listed in the “person specification” section above
  • a 60-minute video interview

In the event we receive a high number of applications, we will conduct an initial sift on the lead criteria which is: 

  • excellent time management skills, able to coordinate multiple diaries for recruitment panels, adapting quickly to changes to ensure smooth and effective management of time

Depending on how many applications we get, there might also be an extra stage before the video interview, for example a phone interview or a technical exercise.
