Job summary

Working in a team with Jennifer Allison our Head – COO Operations and Scott McNicholas (Assistant Director – COO Operations), the Business Continuity Manager will play a critical role in implementing and maintaining the Agency’s business continuity management approach and incident response capability. You will be joining our experienced team, who are committed to making positive change in how the Chief Operating Office provides a range of services that support both operational delivery and change.

Scott is dedicated to delivering a first-class customer service, resolving challenges informally wherever possible, taking an innovative and creative approach to addressing issues. Working with key stakeholders and a professional business management team you will ensure efficient, consistent and effective resolution of business continuity issues and the have the opportunity to help create an effective business continuity management approach across Homes England.

Job description

The role will support the design and delivery of the Agency’s business continuity management approach. This is an excellent opportunity to balance day to day emergency planning, testing and training whilst bringing innovative solutions to the business continuity management offering.

Whilst our day job is to deliver first class customer service to our stakeholders on business continuity, you will be used to "spinning several plates" at once and will always be looking for ways to improve and innovate.

You'll be comfortable supporting the Assistant Director – COO Operations with complex business continuity and incident management issues, aiming to build support for the Business Continuity Management approach across Homes England, providing expert support for directorates and where appropriate, other relevant internal and external stakeholders. You will be proficient in specialist business continuity management, to support the continued professional development of business continuity capability.

You will be resilient and comfortable managing stakeholders at a senior level and your discussions will always be shaped by a good understanding of the commercial and operational impact of what we do as a business management team. You will enjoy working in an innovative, fun and engaging way and be able to negotiate and persuade.

As an experienced specific discipline professional you’ll understand how to manage colleagues and be able to demonstrate you can work with others as part of a team in a collaborative, inclusive way.

Person specification

  • Hold a recognised Business Continuity qualification (CBCI, ISO22301:2019, or similar) or membership (MBCI etc.) or evidence of working towards this.
  • Recent experience of emergency preparedness, resilience, and response (EPRR) in general, or a good working knowledge of multi-agency preparedness and response activities.
  • Experience in business continuity planning/impact analysis.
  • Recent experience in the design, delivery, implementation, and management of business continuity capability at organisational level.
  • Experience of working with, engaging and influencing a wide range of senior stakeholders to drive organisational change.
  • Experience of developing, planning and leading communication and engagement across all levels of an organisation (both verbally and in writing).
  • Experience of performing in delivery roles, including solution design, project management, change management, performance reporting, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to gain confidence and credibility of a range of professionals, motivating and inspiring commitment and collaboration.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with proven ability to work collaboratively with colleagues/stakeholders at all levels.
  • Highly developed, negotiating and influencing skills, overcoming barriers to understanding and acceptance, and reaching agreements.
  • Strong organisational skills, including an ability to be self-starting, to direct work effectively and remain professional in a highly pressurised environment whilst dealing with conflicting priorities.
