About the job

Job summary

We are looking for a Business Administration Apprentice to join our Journal Office at the House of Lords. This role will be known internally as the Journal Office Central Support Apprentice.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of Parliament, getting exposure to several areas and offering variety in the work you complete and people you work with. You will work across each function of the Journal Office over the course of your apprenticeship, learning new systems and processes and providing a front-line service for members. Alongside your work tasks, you will be supported in studying towards a recognised Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship.

This is an opportunity to work on a hybrid basis, with the possibility of 1-2 days working from home each week, depending on the type of work in any given week. This is a fantastic role for somebody who enjoys working within a dynamic team, who has initiative and can communicate well with a diverse group of people.

Job description

You will

  • Assist the Office Manager and Journal Office (JO) Senior Management Team, helping to plan meetings, and log, communicate and implement certain decisions.

  • Support the completion of a range of corporate tasks, including but not limited to financial management, business continuity planning, health and safety, and risk management.

  • Improve the resilience of core JO services by working flexibly across JO teams, developing a range of skills.

  • Provide cover in the Printed Paper Office, supplying papers direct to members of the House of Lords and dealing with their queries;

  • Support the Procedural Centre team, collecting and analysing data and precedents on the work of the House;

  • Work with the Conduct and Registration of Interests teams, providing administrative support for the Conduct Committee if required and helping in the annual audits of members’ and members’ staff interests.

If this sounds like something you would like to hear more about, please apply below.

  • Communications: The ability to represent the Journal Office to a wide range of internal stakeholders

  • Drafting and numeracy: Clear and accurate oral, written and online communication, and good numeracy

  • Tact and discretion: The ability to deal tactfully and discreetly with confidential or sensitive issues
