Job description

Role Overview 

We are looking for people with great potential, eager to start a new career with our fully-funded BSc Level 6 Chartered Surveyor Apprenticeship. An integrated programme of work and learning will be put in place to ensure you get the right mix and breadth of experience required to complete your apprenticeship.

 
Key responsibilities 

  • Provide valuations and property advice to support taxation and benefits to the government and local authorities in England and Wales.​​ 
  • Provide independent, impartial, valuation and professional property advice across the entire public sector, and where public money or public functions are involved.​​ 
  • Undertake property inspections, draw, scale and analyse property plans, identify and record property attributes.​​ 
  • Research, analyse and review property data to support real estate valuation in line with statute and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyor’s Global Standards.​​ 
  • Manage your own case load effectively to deliver work promptly and within set timescales.​
  • Complete the Level 6 BSc Chartered Surveyor Apprenticeship.

Person specification

Successful candidates will need to:

  • Be committed to undertake and complete the BSc Level 6 Chartered Surveyor Apprenticeship, becoming an expert in property and valuation and build a career as a Chartered Surveyor.​
  • Have strong analytical skills to inform decision-making and provide advice to others​.
  • Communicate complex information effectively to others, both verbally and in writing. ​
  • Adapt to different types of work and manage competing demands at one time​.
  • Work effectively with others and demonstrate leadership capability when required.
  • Be willing to travel on a regular basis, including potential overnight stays​.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will also need to meet the following qualification requirements by end of August 2024:

  • GCSE Grade C /4 or above or an equivalent Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics as defined by the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) in England.

AND ONE OF the following:

  • 96 UCAS tariff points (2021 Tariff) or an equivalent level of attainment through recognised qualifications not included in the UCAS Tariff- please use the UCAS calculator.
  • Advanced Apprenticeship in Surveying or an Advanced Apprenticeship in Construction Technical through which a Construction and Built Environment Diploma with a minimum DD profile was obtained or through which a Construction and Built Environment Extended Diploma with a minimum MMM profile was obtained, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Current RICS Associate qualification (AssocRICS).

PLEASE ALSO NOTE:

  • During the recruitment process you will need to be able to provide certificatesfor the above. A statement of results from your exam board will suffice initially if you are awaiting certificates. But you will need to provide certificates when enrolling on the apprenticeship programme.
  • Candidates must not already hold a qualification at the same level or above in in the same subject area as the apprenticeship. 
  • For the duration of the apprenticeship, candidates can not undertake another qualification at the same time (including other apprenticeships, degrees, sandwich placements and other qualifications).

Interviews - 10 April 2024 - 24 April 2024

Interviews are currently taking place using Microsoft Teams Video. We will provide more detail if you are shortlisted for interview.

We will assess you on the Behaviours listed in the job description, strengths, technical skills and a presentation.

We will ask you to prepare and deliver a timed 5 minute presentation. The topic will be confirmed prior to interview. This will be followed by a 5 minute Q&A.

Behaviours

The distinguishing Behaviours (the required skills, knowledge and behaviours) for this role are set out in the Civil Service Behaviours Framework 2018 (Success Profiles - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)) and should be referred to when making this application.

You are required, under the Behaviours approach, to describe how you have dealt with a specific situation.

You must give evidence of your knowledge, skills and behaviours and how you have applied this, such as what you did or said and how you interacted with other people.

When you are giving your examples, do not spend too many words on description and background information. Avoid using general or unspecific statements. Instead say what the situation was, what you did what your thought process was and so on.

Presentation 

You will also be required to conduct a presentation. Information on the presentation topic will be provided to you if you are shortlisted for interview.

Additional Information

These posts are advertised on a full time only basis due to the needs of the business and the requirement for candidates to undertake an apprenticeship as part of their role.

This role can be undertaken at any of our VOA offices in England and you will be asked to select up to two preferred locations as part of your application, you should only select locations that you can commit to working in long term. Details of our office locations can be found at the top of the advert. There will be a merit list per location with the 1st candidate from each list offered a role, starting with the highest scoring individual, until the number of required roles is met.

Please be aware that you will be expected to take up duty in the location that you are offered.

Due to the way the CS Jobs system is set up, when choosing your preferred locations, you will find that the Wembley & Canary Wharf location will not appear on the list of options. They are replaced by Harlesden & Tower Hamlets.

Reserve Lists
