Here at Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) (SNI), we are an inclusive and dedicated organisation working to provide excellent care to our entitled personnel!

We are looking to recruit a dynamic, organised and enthusiastic Band 5 Civilian Dental Hygienist who will be working within our Dental Department, here at Leuchars Dental Centre, Leuchars Station. The post will require you to travel to, Dental Centre RM Condor Arbroath Angus DD11 3SJ. 

The position offers 37.5 hours per week.

Job description

As the successful Civilian Dental Hygienist, you will be required to provide clinical and administrative support for the provision of dental care in Defence Primary Healthcare dental centres (DC), to enhance force generation and operational capability and minimise dental morbidity on operations.


Person specification

Duties of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Informing GDC of annual Continual Professional Development (CPD) undertaken, when requested.
  • Undertaking CPD in the core subjects of medical emergencies, Infection Prevention Control (IPC), disinfection and decontamination, radiography and radiation protection, legal and ethical issues and handling complaints, as recommended by the GDC. 
  • Maintaining immunological protection against Hepatitis B in accordance with current guidelines, advising the line manager of any change to immunological status.

There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel, but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home. 

Due to COVID 19, there is now a requirement for dental clinical staff to be fit tested for a FFP3 mask, which has to be worn when managing a patient who is undergoing an aerosol generating procedure (AGP) the successful candidate will be fit tested prior to commencing employment. 

The successful applicant will have contact with patients and service users. In-line with the NHS England approach, MOD is in the process of making full vaccination a condition of deployment for its healthcare workers employed across the UK. In order to comply with our duty of care, we require our staff to have the COVID vaccine and we will ask for proof of vaccination status during the recruitment process.
