The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is responsible for the regulation of nuclear safety and security across the UK. Our mission is to provide efficient and effective regulation of the nuclear industry, holding it to account on behalf of the public.

Job Purpose

This role is predominately power apps model driven app development, providing solutions to business requirements and communicating with the business at many levels. It will require experience of PowerApps (Canvas and model driven), Azure, SQL, Power BI Models/datasets & Power automate.

This is a largely hands-on role for someone who has is keen to develop their career, they will be given the help and support to keep developing their technical skills.

As a Power Platform Support Developer, you will provide essential development support for the business. This is an exciting role in a newly formed team part of the IT department and is essential to ensure that we can meet the needs of the business going forward. Power Platform is being used across the core regulatory functions ONR needs to perform its duties. From data capture to data analysis and trending, it helps us consistently manage our information. This role will be part of the on-going development and support team for the Power Platform.

About the Role

The Power Platform Support Developer will be expected to support the Senior Power Platform Developer to apply a range of techniques in the development, delivery and on-going management of Power Platform services and solutions that either offers actionable insights or solve complex business issues.

Principal Responsibilities

The post will entail working with stakeholders to understand the requirements and to design, develop, test, and deliver solutions to address these requirements. This will include collaborative working in an agile environment and so the ability to communicate effectively with both a technical and a non-technical audience is important.

  • The role will involve assessing new methods and technologies (within the power platform and outside) to inform the direction of the development, before implementing recommendations.
  • Engagement with process owners and business SMEs to identify or clarify business requirements.
  • Work closely with the rest of the IT team to promote good technical architecture and quality, practices, and ethics across the organisation.
  • Work closely with the system administration roles to ensure the system is being maintained as expected.

Line Management Responsibilities

None currently, however, at this level there could be an expectation to manage staff in the future.

Location / Travel

This post may be undertaken from a base at any one of ONR’s office locations (Bootle, Cheltenham, or London), however, there is an expectation that attendance is required at the Bootle office on a regular basis.

Essential Qualifications

Successful applicants should hold or be willing to achieve the following qualifications within the first 12 months:

  • PL-200 (or equivalent) as a minimum
  • ITIL Foundation

Skills/Job Related Expertise   

  • Experience building Model Driven Apps and Canvas Apps using Microsoft Power Platform
  • Experience writing automations for example but not limited to Power Automate Flows
  • Experience of working to an agile methodology.
  • Development support by following agreed fix processes, carrying out scheduled maintenance.
  • Experience of development lifecycle management from conception to deployment
  • Knowledge of how to integrate PowerApps and SharePoint lists, Azure SQL and/or other methods of storing data using Microsoft technologies.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) to both technical & non-technical stakeholders; collaborate and lead others to maximise the capture and the use of data to benefit the business.
  • Proven ability of managing a quality service whilst being able to manage multiple priorities and optimising processes.

Desirable skills and experience

  • Experience of JavaScript or other programming languages
  • Experience of SharePoint configuration
