Job description

Job Purpose

The role sits within the Information Technology and Delivery Directorate (ITDD), as part of the IT Service Management (ITSM) function. An Infrastructure Operations Engineer supports, manages, and maintains the core infrastructure that underpins production services. An infrastructure operations engineer is responsible for the preparation and support of IT operations solutions and services, physical or virtual. They do so according to industry and organisational best practices, standards, service requirements and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) throughout the product life cycle.

About The Role

This is an exciting new role within the team and is essential to ensure we can meet the needs of the business going forward. You will be part of the team responsible for all of ONRs IT infrastructure, ensuring ongoing operational excellence and supporting the delivery of the pipeline of work and the IT digital strategy. It will require experience of Azure, Microsoft 365, Intune, network technologies and troubleshooting skills.

This is a largely hands-on role for an Infrastructure Engineer who is keen to develop their career, they will be given the help and support to develop their technical skills. Due to the business-critical operational requirements of the role, some out of hour’s work will be required to support the ONR Infrastructure.

Principal Responsibilities

At this role level, you will:

  • Perform all routine tasks according to process, including daily operchecklists.
  • Monitor infrastructure and applications services and take appropriate action to
  • Use your networking knowledge to identify incidents and liaise with 3rd parties to resolve.
  • Respond to escalations from 1st line/Service Desk and other IT teams Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the monitoring of all backup jobs.
  • Assist in ensuring all 3rd party applications are packaged, deployed, and patched in line with business requirements.
  • Assist in ensuring the Redgrave Court Incident Suite (RCIS) is operational with incidents given the highest priority.
  • Be responsible for ensuring changes required are raised and processed in line with the ONR change process.
  • Raise and implement opportunities for continuous service improvements and automation.

Line Management Responsibilities

None currently, however, at this level there could be an expectation to manage staff in the future.

Location / Travel

This post may be undertaken from a base at any one of ONR’s office locations (Bootle, Cheltenham, or London), however, there is an expectation that attendance is required at the Bootle office on a regular basis.

Essential Qualifications

Successful applicants should hold or be willing to work towards within the first 12 months:

  • ITIL Foundation V4
  • MTA Cloud Fundamentals
  • CompTIA A+

Essential Skills/Job Related Expertise  

  • Experience of supporting and monitoring of Microsoft Azure IaaS and PaaS
  • Experience of supporting and monitoring of Microsoft 365 inc. Power Platform
  • Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)
  • Backup administration and monitoring (Microsoft, Veeam and AvePoint)
  • Fundamental experience and understanding of network technologies (WAN, LAN, and Wi-Fi), including management of both DNS/DHCP.
  • Experience of troubleshooting and resolving monitoring alerts
  • Experience of using ITSM tools
  • Support of ONRs audio visual equipment including Surface Hubs and Teams Rooms devices
  • Working with multiple 3rd party suppliers to ensure incidents and requests are resolved or completed
