About The Role

Reporting to the Infrastructure and Environments Manager, the Cloud Solutions Architect will be accountable for owning technical solution within the Information Technology and Delivery Directorate (ITDD) architecture function. The role combines guidance from different enterprise architecture viewpoints (business, information and technical), with a focus on bridging the gap between both the technical and business functions, expertly defining, validating, and promoting quality solutions for and opportunity or project.

Whilst not accountable for the delivery of business benefit itself, the role will be required to help identify areas of benefit and provide support in delivering business outcomes.

Location / Travel

This post may be undertaken from a base at any one of ONR’s office locations (Bootle, Cheltenham, or London), however, there will be an expectation to attend the Bootle office on a regular basis.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must hold or can achieve and retain National Security Vetting clearance at SC level.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the solution ownership and translation of requirements into a solution vision and high-level functional specifications with a clear portfolio of implementation tasks.
  • Lead on the interpretation of functional and non-functional requirements, data flows, and enterprise architectural guidelines to create business specific solutions that are maintainable, supportable, fit for purpose, cost effective and future proof.
  • Bridge the gap between the technical and business teams, expertly defining, validating, and promoting quality solutions for an opportunity or project.
  • Responsible for combining guidance from different enterprise architecture viewpoints (business, information and technical)
  • Accountable for the solution ownership within the ITD Directorate
  • Drive innovation by identifying opportunities both within the ITD Directorate as well as in the wider business context.
  • Own alignment activities with the delivery team and ensure that our principles and values are born out in the solution design and execution.

Qualifications

Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions Architect - Essential

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Significant experience of working as a Solutions Architect designing and implementing cloud solutions (Azure and M365)
  • Extensive experience in developing both high and low-level solution designs incorporating business, application, data, and security requirements
  • Proven ability to understand non-functional requirements, technical documents, and business cases
  • Proven ability to assess the current systems architecture in place and working with technical teams to recommend solutions to improve.
  • Ability to demonstrate an analytical approach towards solving IT challenges
  • Significant experience of ARM templates, BICEP/Terraform or similar tools
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, allowing for updates in product development processes, costs, and budgets, with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organisation, inclusive of 3rd party vendors.
  • Confidence in the use of modern Microsoft based IT tools and applications.
