Job description

The Defra DDTS Group Infrastructure and Operations (GIO) are looking for an Asset Manager.

In Defra you will support the life-cycle management of IT software and hardware assets from an economic perspective throughout the organisation.

You will be responsible for development and maintenance of policies, standards, processes, systems and measurements. Those responsibilities enable the organization to manage the IT Asset Portfolio with respect to risk, cost, control, IT governance, compliance and business performance priorities as established by the business. Person specification

Responsibilities

  • Registration, monitoring and managing the use of proprietary IT assets
  • Integration of all suppliers involved in the asset management process, and assurance of the quality of supplier asset management work
  • Creation, maintenance, operation, governance and improvement of the Service Asset & Configuration Management governance framework and asset management processes
  • Assurance of supplier work across Service Asset Management
  • Oversees the software and hardware asset portfolio and works with all departments that are involved in the procurement, deployment, management and expense reporting of proprietary IT assets
  • Contribute to a governance structure incorporating all relevant IT suppliers for the escalation and management of asset management issues, including to the Asset Manager
  • Provide assurance over the quality of supplier work related to asset management and seek to resolve any issues resulting from this

Skills and Experience

  • ITIL Foundation v3,IT Asset Management (ITAM) Foundation or ITIL Expert qualification or equivalent experience and commitment to work towards qualification
  • Highly organised with excellent influencing, relationship, and conflict resolution skills
  • Experience in the successful management of complex matrix and multi-supplier environments
  • Experience in assisting multiple concurrent teams, managing own and team priorities to deadlines
  • Performing effectively to deadlines, maintaining focus in challenging situations and adapting to find solutions to problems that meet the needs of stakeholders

Location

Please be aware that this role(s) will be contractually based in a Defra group workplace/office. The successful candidate is required to carry out all their duties from a UK location, and cannot do so from an overseas location at any time. 

Candidates applying for these roles will be based at one of the Defra hubs as advertised.  

For information, our core Defra hub locations are:

  • York – the Kings Pool
  • Newcastle – Lancaster House
  • Bristol – Horizon House (Please note that space at this office is limited and it may not be possible for all Policy roles to be recruited to this location)

Internal (core Defra) employees can apply for this role and choose to remain in their current location or to be based in one of the advertised locations.

All other applicants will be based in one of the advertised locations.Our current office attendance approach requires 60% attendance in Defra group workplaces or off site meetings with partners and customers. This balance provides thriving workplaces to connect with colleagues, as required by their role and business team needs balanced with personal flexibility and choice. 

Travel and subsistence will not be paid for travel to a base office location.

A reserve list may be held for a period of 12 months from which further appointments can be made.

Salary

New entrants to the Civil Service are expected to start on the minimum of the pay band. The internal roles rules apply to existing Civil Servants, i.e. level transfers move on current salary or the pay range minimum, transfers on promotion move to new pay range minimum or receive 10% increase. Either case is determined by whichever is the highest.
