Job summary

We are looking for someone that has excellent communication skills as they will support personnel of all ranks. They will also have the ability to react quickly and positively to change. Strong customer service skills are required along with digital literacy, although full training will be provided on using the tailored computer systems for the Dismounted Close Combat Trainer (DCCT) and Virtual Battlefield Simulator (VBS).

You will need to be a confident and able communicator who is able to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with a range of ranks within the Battle School. The role will require instruction, management, control, and accounting of all stores and equipment on charge to the Simulation Wing.  You will assist and support the Simulation Warrant Officer in course delivery on DCCT System Manager, Advanced Operator and Virtual Battle Space user courses.

The Infantry Battle School in Brecon, mid-Wales, delivers trained officers and soldiers to meet the operational requirements of the Infantry, the Army and Defence.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. Hybrid working is actively encouraged, (with a minimum of 60% of the time in office and maximum of 40% Hybrid working) although attendance at site for much of the week will be vital during course delivery and equipment management.  This post is open for all working patterns, but please note, that part-time or job share will only be considered if, full time cover can be achieved.

Job description

Specific tasks the Simulation System Manager is required to deliver include;

  • Manage and maintain the DCCT Systems.
  • Manage and maintain the VBS Simulation Suite.
  • Assist the Training Divisions in the scenario building for VBS.
  • Ensure all equipment for DCCT and VBS is checked and tested, prior to use.
  • Maintain the unit Fire Safety Management Plan (FSMP).
  • Maintain the Health & Safety (SHEF) boards, ensuring they are current, compliant, and bought to the attention of all users, where applicable.
  • Carry out, and record all findings for the Quarterly Management Checks, as directed.
  • Act as custodian for the DCCT, VBS and other Simulation systems.
  • Issue Simulation equipment as per the correct stores and equipment procedure.
  • Deputise for the 25m Range Warden in times of absence.

The Simulation System Manager will be the main point of contact for the DCCT and VBS within the Infantry Battle School. They will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the all the simulation systems. They will also instruct and assist in the delivery of the courses. Line manager to the range warden.

Reporting directly to the Officer Commanding, Infantry Weapons Division, this post is pivotal in supporting the delivery of simulation weapons training to enable trained soldiers to complete their initial and subsequent trade training for service in the British Army.

  • Successful Candidate will be expected to complete several Dismounted Close Combat Training and Virtual Battle Space courses and any further training required for the grade.
