An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Army Safety Group for the Assistant Head of Safety Organisational Learning.  This unique role is responsible for the management of the Army Functional Safety organisational learning Functional Lessons Analyst (FLA) in accordance with ACSO 1118 and the Army’s Organisational Learning Strategy on behalf of Head of Army Safety (Hd AS). This includes the management of the creation, development and delivery of Army Organisational Learning and ensuring the maintenance the Organisational Learning sub-strategy, that assurance is being undertaken in a timely and efficient manner and that the process and outcomes for providing relevant Organisational Learning advice and guidance across the Army Top Level Budget.

Job description

The overarching responsibility of this role is to ensure the Head of Army Safety is supported in their delivery to meet objectives set by Defence.  As well as this you would be expected to:

  • Responsible for Organisational Learning and production of Safety related Service Inquiries briefings to the Army Safety Champion the Army Senior Leadership Team.
  • Production of Briefs and Organisational Learning analysis.
  • Leading the Army Functional Safety Organisational Learning outputs in support of Army SEMS governance.
  • Managing the Identification of Army Safety Organisational Learning themes and trends across all mediums available to the Army and oTLBs.
  • Engage, advise and lead the Army safety community ensuring they actively pursue organisational learning in line with the Army’s direction and methodology.
  • Ensure the correct and timely management of this action is completed by the POC in respect of Service Inquiry & Non Statutory Inquiry report recommendations through confirmation, conduct Military Judgement Panel and entry into Management Information Systems, critically tracking to final closure.
  • Ensure that the distribution of all relevant safety information to the Army is acted upon efficiently and coherently.

We are looking for a motivated starter who will go the extra mile when considering the risk to safety.  Someone who has demonstratable organisational learning skills and has experience in a diverse and fast-paced environment.  You will need practical experience and knowledge within a Safety critical role and keep pace with the Army as it delivers and continuously improves it safety programmes.  You will have a coherent leadership style, as you will be expected to engage and win agreement with internal and external Stakeholders.  

 The successful candidate would need to demonstrate their ability to deliver against tight deadlines, excellent communication skills, both written and orally and have a good understanding of Organisational Learning. You will need to deliver at pace against a backdrop of uncertainty and continual change.  The ability to demonstrate leadership in diverse and high performing teams with the proven ability to empower/encourage a successful team ethos is a must for you to be successful in this role.  You will need to be proficient in MS Office.
