Job summary

Joint Aviation Command (JAC) brings under one command, Battlefield Helicopters (BH) of the Royal Navy (RN), Army Air Corps and Royal Air Force (RAF)!  JAC operates the core Rotary Wing tasks of lift, find and attack to support ground forces in the land and littoral environments. It also operates Uncrewed Air Systems of the Royal Artillery

The role of the infrastructure business manager is fundamental to the support of JAC’s activity in the UK and overseas! The role helps ensure that flying operations can be achieved. Working with the flying units, Army Headquarters, and the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), this role offers the opportunity to support an incredibly agile and high readiness force in preparing for operations and exercises.

This post is broad. Responsibilities will include working with formations on a day-to-day basis right up to briefing Commander JAC and representing JAC in Army forums, chaired by senior leaders to apportion funding in support of infrastructure management and projects.

We will support the successful candidate with career development and will be helped to enhance their delivery skills, gain knowledge, and build expertise in an exciting yet encouraging environment in a tight-knit team of RN, Army, RAF and Civil Service personnel.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

The role is broad and will deliver support in the following areas:

  1. JAC Infrastructure Programme - Update and maintain the JAC Infrastructure Plan in line with the Army Plan.
  2. Support to partners in the initial drafting of infrastructure requirements setting documentation.
  3. Production and maintenance of JAC infrastructure policy documentation.
  4. Coherence of infrastructure management across the JAC estate.
  5. Provision of subject matter expert advice to JAC Units, this will also include the use of temporary infrastructure solutions for operations and exercise.
  6. Represent HLB (Higher Level Budget)/Comd JAC (2*) at the Army infrastructure forums, meetings and working groups.

The successful candidate will:

  1. Be effective at lone working and be a self-starter.
  2. Have initiative and enterprise, be self-motivated and lead by example.
  3. Communicate optimally with all stakeholders both verbally and in writing.
  4. Be proficient on Word, Power Point, Excel and capable of quickly grasping the use of a wide range of customer facing databases and information tools used by DIO.

Person specification

This role is responsible for the oversight and coherence of Infrastructure for the JAC’s UK and overseas basing requirements. Working closely with Formations, Regional Command and Defence Infrastructure Organisation, this role is critical in providing coherence across the JAC estate. Whilst the main focus of the role is within the UK, there may be the requirement to travel overseas in support of temporary infrastructure tasks.

It requires experience in a busy office environment where decisions and tasks need to be handled at pace and recommendations made in a concise and coherent manner. An ability to network and gain a quick rapport with colleagues and build effective working relationships with a wide variety of partners is a must. A natural passion to work towards continuous improvement is crucial in delivering positive outcomes in a complex set of systems and processes.
