Job summary

Founded in 1908, Queen Victoria School is set in 45 acres of beautiful Perthshire countryside. We exist to provide stability and continuity of education, within the Scottish system, in a caring but stretching learning environment, valued by the military families whom we serve. With priority given to Scottish Service personnel, and those who have served in Scotland or as part of a Scottish regiment, the school takes around 270 pupils from ages 10/11 to 18. We have a long tradition of ceremonial excellence; we take pride in this and all that our school has to offer. Working at Queen Victoria School is a truly unique experience.

We are currently looking to appoint a Teacher of English for August 2024, who shares our core values which are set out clearly in the attached Job Pack. The role will include teaching and coordinating the delivery of English studies across all secondary year groups. You will support the Principal Teacher of English & Language to enhance provision and will have the opportunity to be involved with exciting project work throughout the year. We are looking for an outstanding, committed and motivated, qualified teacher to contribute to the development of teaching and learning in the curriculum. This is an ideal opportunity for a classroom teacher who can display a real passion for developing and inspiring the pupils in their care.

This post is advertised at 35 hours per week.

Job description

To ensure outstanding learning and outcomes for students learning English, the key areas of responsibility for this role include:

To endeavour to ensure continuous outstanding student achievement through setting high expectations, effective teaching and learning, closely monitoring progress and giving positive and effective feedback.

To contribute to the routine administrative work of the school and teach a broad, balanced and stimulating curriculum across the full range of abilities, helping students develop independent learning.

To make a full contribution to the wider life of the School and Community.

To model positive behaviour management strategies in a Teaching, Mentoring or Form Tutor capacity, creating an environment of mutual respect which allows students to feel safe and secure and promotes self-esteem.

To engage fully with the whole school improvement cycles including individual performance reviews.

All full-time QVS Teachers are also Boarding Tutors. This requires one duty evening per week of 4 hours and 8 weekend days per academic year (8 hours per day).  Part-time teachers can apply to be Boarding Tutors.  Boarding Tutors are paid an additional Boarding School Allowance.

As part of boarding school life, Boarding Tutors are required to assist in the Hobbies programme by offering a minimum of 1 night per week for 1 hour from October to March.

At sift, you will be assessed on your personal statement, CV and the 4 Technical skills, for the interview you will be assessed on the 4 Technical skills and a class room observation.

At the interview you will be assessed on technical skills and experience outlined in the job advert. You will also be expected to show evidence of outstanding teaching and complete a subject/classroom-based task.
