Job summary

The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within it, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 9,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. We are a diverse workforce with a range of roles and are delighted to advertise three driver positions in 20 Transport Squadron RLC, based at Regents Park Barracks, London.

Job description

Duties include

  • Driving taskings assigned by Task Troop Commander on a daily basis 
  • Compliance with all national regulations (Road Traffic Act) and JSP 800 Road Transport Policy. A copy of Drivers Standing Orders must be read and signed annually by all drivers.
  • Compliance with all provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, related legislation and codes of practice.
  • Compliance with local instructions and directions as routinely issued under the authority of the Officer Commanding, 20 Tpt Sqn RLC,
  • Assist in loading and unloading of vehicles where possible in line with H&S practices and heavy lifting guidelines.
  • Compliance with all mandated training as directed by  MOD  and  Officer Commanding 20 Tpt Sqn RLC.

Person specification

A driver employed within 20 Tpt Sqn RLC is expected to be able to drive any vehicle specified within the licences held:

  • Drive all types of light vehicles, Category B and C1. (Essential).
  • Drive passenger Carrying Vehicles, D and D1 where the licence is held (Essential).
  • Drive various types of large goods vehicles, Category C (Desirable).

These are permanent positions of 42hrs gross per week (37 hours net). Flexibility is needed to work if required some early mornings, late evenings, weekends and public holidays.
