We encourage applications from a diverse range of candidates

At DfE, we are proud of the commitment we make to diversity and inclusion and of the progress we have made. We have active & vibrant staff networks, special leave policies and workplace adjustments put in place for those who need them. We are continuing to build a diverse DfE, in an inclusive environment which nurtures and realises potential in all, at all levels.

Equality and Diversity - Department for Education

You will have the opportunity to gain valuable skills, knowledge and experience as you complete a Data Analyst - Level 4 Apprenticeship.

You will play a key part in delivering one of the DfE’s most high-profile programmes. You will be part of a high-profile, high-performing team providing valuable insight to senior colleagues and ministers.

The DfE’s Apprenticeships programme is a flagship government policy and our programme is an exciting place to work. We work to grow the number of high-quality apprenticeships in England and to have a positive impact on the lives of the apprentices, their employers and the economy as a whole. Apprenticeships are universally popular across the political spectrum; we have implemented significant reforms to the way that apprenticeships are designed, delivered, assessed and funded.

As a Data Analyst apprentice, you’ll play an essential role within the Apprenticeships Finance, Insight and Performance team. You’ll gain the skills and experience to provide critical support to the SRO and programme and help decision makers to design and implement the right policies to increase the quality of apprenticeships in England.

Job description

As this role includes completion of the Data Analyst apprenticeship (Level 4). Please check the eligibility requirements below using the apprenticeship standard: Data analyst / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education

  • You must have lived in the UK for 3 years prior to apprenticeship start date and not be undertaking another apprenticeship at the same time.
  • You must not already have a substantial amount of the skills and knowledge that is covered in the contents of the apprenticeship standard.
  • You must not have already worked in a similar role, or your previous learning, and/or work experience covers the contents (Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours) of the apprenticeship standard.

Please do not apply if:

  • You already have all the skills and knowledge that is covered in the contents of the apprenticeship standard.
  • You have already worked in a similar role, or your previous learning, and/or work experience covers the contents (Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours) of the apprenticeship standard.
  • You have a degree (or equivalent) in data analysis.

Part of this apprenticeship is to complete a level 2 English and maths functional skills qualification. If you have already achieved GCSEs in English and maths at grade 4 (grade C) or equivalent or a higher grade, you will not need to complete the functional skills qualification.

At the enrolment stage, the individual's eligibility will be checked by the training provider.

You will train to become the Quality Analyst in the Apprenticeships programme, within the Finance, Insight and Performance team. An important role of the team is to advise the programme SRO about the programme’s performance and cost of delivery. An important aspect of the programme’s performance is the quality of the apprenticeship offer. This role will focus on the measurement and analysis of that ‘quality’.

The role will provide useful insight to policy teams and decision makers to inform their thinking about how the quality of apprenticeships can be improved.

Reporting to the Apprenticeships Performance Lead, the Quality Analyst will have an indirect reporting line to the Deputy Director responsible for apprenticeship quality.

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Leading analysis on the measurable quality of apprenticeships. This includes translating technical and non-technical user requirements into work packages, and then identifying the best tools, data and techniques to deliver them.
  • Communicating and promoting the team’s work with key stakeholders, ensuring awareness of analysis and how it can help them make key immediate and longer-term decisions for the successful delivery of the programme.
  • Engaging and advising colleagues to increase their awareness of the latest data and evidence, and to help them make the best use of it, and to identify high value opportunities.
  • Communicating key findings to colleagues at all levels and professions, in a clear and powerful manner using effective visualisations.

Stay on top of emerging technologies and developing connections with peers to share learning with the Data Science and Analyst community to influence the wider Data Science landscape.
