This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is an informal, non-contractual and voluntary arrangement, blending a balance of attendance in the workplace (the permanent duty station is currently Air Command, High Wycombe although alternative locations can be discussed), and working from home as a personal choice.  If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post. There will be a requirement to travel to other stations and locations as part of this role. 


This position is advertised as 37 hours per week.

Job description

The successful applicant of this post will be supporting the Programme Subject Matter Lead to drive the Climate Change and Sustainability initiative throughout the RAF Estate, coordinating the RAF and wider acquisition organisations and processes to embed sustainability requirements, scrutiny and assurance, and whole life footprint decision support across all Air Estate activities. They will engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to establish and showcase best practise and source innovative and novel solutions which represent value for money sustainable solutions for the RAF. A flexible approach to work is essential to ensure team outputs are produced to time and quality.


Some travel will be required.

Person specification

The primary area of responsibility will be to support the Programme SME Lead with driving and supporting the Estate Sustainability initiative throughout the RAF.

It is desirable for the successful applicant to have:

  • Experience in an Infrastructure sustainability role
  • Experience and knowledge in relation to the collation of the information and data necessary to provide the management information required to inform decision support which will drive activity required to achieve a net zero resilient Air Estate
  • Strong management and leadership experience
  • A strong team player and self-starter with the ability to work in a culture of change, being adaptable and willing to review priorities to meet the current and future needs to the team
  • Strong stakeholder and engagement skills with a track record of working with, and through, a wide range of stakeholders
  • Excellent Microsoft application skills including, but not limited to, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

There is currently one direct report (HEO) which will be managed by this post, with an expectation that the team may expand over time.
