Job summary

The role will report to Julie Richardson, Senior Manager for the Safety, Health & Environment team.  

 

You have a choice of offices to be based at, Northstowe (Cambridgeshire) or Coventry (please note Coventry office will be moving to Birmingham from approx. September 2024).

 

The Health and Safety Adviser (Midlands) will play a critical role in ensuring that Homes England’s duties and responsibilities under Health and Safety Legislation are complied with. You will be joining our small but perfectly formed team, who are enthusiastic, professional, friendly, highly skilled and experienced and who are committed to making positive change in how health and safety is managed.

Job description

his is a chance to help shape the future of health and safety in national organisation with real social purpose. Working with 2 other regional H&S advisors and 2 analysts to advise and support key stakeholders, you will contribute on our journey to create a great health and safety culture.

 

The role has Essential Car User status and on average an adviser travels approximately £5k miles per annum; there are various transport options available e.g. lease car, use of public transport and hire cars and occasional overnight stays may be required

 

Person specification

Delivering on a mission as bold as ours isn’t always easy, you need to be resilient, and comfortable working with stakeholders, including those at a senior level. Your discussions will always be shaped by a good understanding of the commercial and operational impact of what we do as a health and safety team.

 

You will enjoy working in a collaborative, innovative, engaging and inclusive way and be able to negotiate and persuade; and demonstrate you can work equally well working as part of a team as on your own initiative.

 

Whilst our day job is to deliver first class customer service to our stakeholders with regard to health and safety, you will be used to "spinning several plates" at once and will always be looking for ways to improve and innovate.

 

We require a minimum of an accredited Level 3 qualification or equivalent in Occupational Health and Safety e.g. NEBOSH Certificate, and a desire to be working towards a level 5-6 qualification in Occupational Health and Safety. 

 

Also a minimum of Technical (TechIOSH) Membership.

 

As a Health and Safety Professional you will have significant experience in:

 

Providing professional and knowledgeable H&S advice and support, including property, facilities management and CDM related queries, (previous experience with local authorities, other government departments would be advantageous, but not essential).

 

Switching between numerous H&S topics in a single day, such as asbestos, legionella, CDM, electrical safety, work at height, event safety, DSE issues, accident investigations. 

 

Auditing and inspections, including knowledge of health and safety management systems.

 

Communicating, presenting and delivering health and safety training.

 

Supporting teams with complex health and safety issues, across a wide range of Health and Safety topics
