Job summary

As an Adviser Team Manager you will be leading a team of International Trade Advisers (ITAs) across Northern England providing the local interface between government and businesses located in the North of England. 

The Team delivers a wide range of Export support, advice and guidance to small and medium sized businesses, helping them achieve export sales. The team is focused on supporting businesses predominantly based in Greater Manchester and Lancashire.  

This role offers excellent leadership opportunities and a chance for self-development, including learning about the challenges SMEs need to overcome to successfully export.  

Job description

  • Lead and manage a place based-focused team of international trade advisers (ITAs) to deliver a set of agreed input and output measures, improving the economic performance of businesses across Northern England.  
  • Work with other parts of DIME including sector teams and other super regions as well as overseas Posts and other Trade related divisions of DBT, internal and external partners and stakeholders to raise awareness of the services and promote opportunities for businesses in the NPH region. 
  • Identify and build on opportunities to develop strategic plans for the Adviser Team Manager led industry sub-sector group.
     
  • Develop the services on offer to businesses and raise awareness of the successes achieved.    
  • As part of the delivery leadership team make a full contribution to the development of the ITA teams across the Northern Powerhouse (NPH) and English Regions.

Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria 

  • Experience of leading and motivating teams and individuals - including remote working.
  • Performance reporting and management through coaching and/or mentoring.
  • Ability to create and develop strong working relationships with partners and stakeholders in relevant  sectors and overseas markets. 
  • Able to contribute to the strategic direction and planning of service delivery and other activities directed at businesses in the Northern England Region. 

  • The role requires regular travel to offices and off-site meetings across the North.  

Desirable Criteria 

  • Experience of having delivered services to private sector businesses at owner/director level.

  • Knowledge of International Trade practices and procedures, ideally in the science & technology, or sustainability & infrastructure sectorsOther trade sectors will be considered.

This role is available in Northern Powerhouse and can only be worked from within the UK, not overseas.
