Job description

This is a fantastic opportunity within the ADI Approvals and Decisions team. We are looking for an Administrative Officer who can take responsibility for a range of ADI tasks - You will be working closely with a variety of colleagues to deliver and process registration from the first application and throughout the registration of an instructor.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Processing all applications including initial applications, trainee licences, first registration, renewal, re-registration and dealing with all related queries
  • Obtaining representations from instructors and making evidence-based recommendations to the Registrar for second trainee licence applications, non-compliance with conditions of first trainee licences and standards check refusal or failure
  • Dealing with notifications of ADI’s driving convictions and issue appropriate warnings or refer to the Fit and Proper team as appropriate
  • Assisting the appeals Manager to collate all evidence for statements of case and appeal hearings
  • Processing removals from the Register, including requests for refunds and ex gratia payments
  • Dealing with telephone, email and written enquiries about registration promptly
  • Prompting digital by default by encouraging and assisting instructors to update their details and make applications online as first option
  • Following the agreed process on receipt of notification from ADIs who are unable to instruct due to ill health or maternity
  • Dealing with the administrative process for ADIs who wish to resign from the Register

Person specification

We are searching for someone who has:

  • Excellent organisational and Administrative skills.
  • Great communication skills and is able to communicate effectively with individuals across teams and at various levels. 
  • The ability to interpret regulation and legislation. 
  • Good knowledge of IT systems, particularly Word, Excel and email applications - with associated keyboard skills.

Additional Information 

This post is offered on a Fixed Term Appointment (FTA) basis to complete a finite piece of work. However, there could be potential of permanency.  

Permanent Civil Servants will not be expected to change their employment status from permanent to fixed term appointment.

Internal applicants will be appointed on inward loan and subject to the terms of the agreed inward loan agreement. The expectation is that you will return to your previous post at the end of the loan period, which will need to be agreed with your line manager in advance.   

If you're employed by a non-departmental public body (NDPB) by moving jobs this will involve a change of employer and you may break the statutory rules on continuity of employment.

This role will be based in Nottingham where your presence at this location will form part of the working arrangements agreed with you. We operate a hybrid working model with the expectation that you will spend a minimum 60% on a DVSA site or on official business giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work.

You will receive a full training whilst in post of the legal requirements that are involved with a regulatory scheme such as this.
