The Admin Officers in the Welsh Language Unit play a critical role, providing excellent administrative support and customer service to court users and management.  

About us  

HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales. Our roles support our court users by providing a Welsh language service within HMCTS, where people and businesses access potentially life-changing justice. Your role 

Working as part of our Welsh Language Unit you will contribute to the overall operational, performance and service standard targets across your area of work. You will help provide a Welsh telephony service to those who want to deal with us in the Welsh language, help provide a Welsh language web-chat facility and provide administrative support to functions within HMCTS. You will have regular contact with court / tribunal users and the legal profession.  

You will be adaptable, able to multi-task and effectively carry out a variety of duties, which will include:  

  • Dealing with telephone enquiries across a range of jurisdictions
  • Provide a Welsh language web-chat facility
  • Keep statistics on the use of Welsh language across our services
  • Dealing with general administrative duties as required including the processing of invoices
  • Log all work related activity on the Welsh Language Unit’s workflow database  
  • Communicating with the Public, Court and Tribunal Users and Representatives of other Agencies and Organisations 

Your skills and experience 

  • Friendly and approachable manner with excellent customer service skills. 
  • Ability to multitask, whilst working in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills. 
  • IT proficient with the ability to learn and adapt to different technologies and software 
  • Excellent organisational skills. 

Further details: 

The Welsh Language Unit work in a hybrid manner with 60% of the working weeks spent in the court/office location. Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week. Part-time working of 4 days a week can be considered together with flexible and job-sharing working patterns, where they meet the demands of the role and business needs and are agreed prior to appointment. All applications for part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance with the MoJ’s Flexible Working policy.   

As the Welsh Language Unit is based in Caernarfon and if the successful applicant is based at any of the other locations mentioned, then there will be an expectation to travel to Caernarfon from time to time for training and team interaction.

Due to business needs the minimum part time hours we can offer any part time request is 30 hours per week, over 4 days.

The jobholder must be able to fulfil all spoken/written aspects of the role with confidence in English and Welsh.

i.e. the candidate must be able to write short sentences in Welsh for purposes of providing a webchat functionality using the scripts provided. The interview will be conducted in Welsh.
