Job summary

A fulfilling and rewarding opportunity has arisen to join the 45 Sqn ISTAR Instructional team at RAFC Cranwell. You will be fundamental in providing RAF WSO / WSOp ISTAR with the foundation of aviation professional knowledge that will shape and be with them for the rest of their flying career.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. Job description

As the successful candidate, you will be delivering foundation and advance ISTAR lessons in both the classroom and GBTE. You will be expected to deliver instruction on a range of ISTAR topics in support of the trainees moving on to front line ISTAR platforms. Although you will normally take a lead on one element of the syllabus, you will be expected to support instruction across a range of subject matter, including: Navigation, Communications, Basic Electronic Warfare / Electro-Optical Infra-Red / Acoustics; aligned to your previous experience. It is essential for the candidate to be a competent teacher/instructor capable of facilitation and liaising with students including individuals with English as a second language. Competency in using Information Technology is also essential. The successful applicant will have instructional experience in an aviation environment and be skilled in leading, developing and overseeing trainees, whilst working together in a small dedicated team of instructors. They will have excellent communication skills and a proven record of implementing change and continuous improvement strategies. They will be able to analyse and recommend changes to the syllabus where necessary.

Person specification

  • Experience of military ISTAR aviation, ideally with previous instructional experience.
  • Teaching qualification (Cert Ed, DIT or DTTT) is desirable, although formal training in Defence Instructional Techniques will be made available to the successful candidate.
  • A working IT knowledge of Microsoft Office with emphasis on Word and PowerPoint is essential.
